UA Experiential Ensemble and the Fred Fox Jazz Ensemble.

The UA Experiential Ensemble, directed by Angelo Verace, is a jazz combo at the University if Arizona. It’s main mission is to help students learn the aural tradition of jazz through an emphasis on ear training, jazz history, and the learning of standard jazz repertoire. Students in this Ensemble are also expected to compose and arrange for the group. It has represented the school on several prominent occasions throughout its existence. This year the group is made up of 8 musicians: Brianna Barnhart – Vocals, Autumn Dominguez – Saxophone, Damian Chavira – Trombone, Jeremy Winter & Jonathan Hines- Piano, Diego Urias – Guitar, Cynthia Smalling – Bass, and Eric Sorenson – Drums

The Fred Fox Jazz Ensemble, directed by Jason Carder and Angelo Versace, is a creative tour de force selected from the creme-de-la-creme of the Fred Fox School of Music student musicians and composers. In this ensemble, the artists explore creative music-making through experiential learning and democratic decision making. The ensembles repertoire consists solely of pieces written or arranged by the current members. The keyboardist, Spencer Clarke, recently won ISJAC and is one of the most prolific composers in the group. The other members are leaders of their own groups and are very active around Tucson. They are: Kai Felix – Drums, Jeff Sandberg – Bass, Gus Woodrow – Guitar, Simeon Roth – Sax, Drew Sheets -Trombone, Alex Melnychuck – Trumpet, and Brianna Barnhart – Vocals
