The South Mountain Latin Jazz Big Band was formed in 2011 to specialize in Latin Jazz Music. Latin Jazz Music can simply be described as Jazz from Latin America with the main influences coming from Cuba and Africa. The rhythms are based on the clave beat of 3-2 or 2-3. The South Mountain Latin Jazz band will perform this exciting music by composers Ray Santos, Mongo Santamaria, Joe Gallardo and many more!

Eddie Gaona has been a music educator for over 35 years, a professional trumpet player, an arranger and the leader of a Latin band. Eddie is currently music director and theory instructor at South Mountain Community College.
