Join Lauren Kinhan and her trio as they pay tribute to legendary vocalist Nancy Wilson and her collaborations with jazz greats Cannonball Adderley and George Shearing. Kinhan’s love affair with the iconic recording, Nancy Wilson/Cannonball Adderley, began while sitting on her living room floor in her Encanto house in Phoenix when she was 8 years old. A vibrant musical upbringing attending jazz clubs in Phoenix and later Portland cultivated a free spirited artist with a flair for pushing creative boundaries. Lauren uses these iconic partnerships and early recordings of Nancy’s career as the launching point for, A Sleepin’ Bee, her adventuresome spin on a tribute album and first all standard record of her career. Downbeat Magazine recently gave it a coveted 4 1/2 stars and AllAboutJazz said, “Every single song in this collection hits a sweet spot of a different sort, but the most pleasing aspect of the recording is how it uncovers the stripped-down, soulful side of Kinhan’s voice.”

Lauren is an accomplished performer-composer-improviser with three highly-acclaimed albums of her own original music (Hardly Blinking, Avalon and Circle in a Square) as well as being a 25-year member of the beloved vocal group New York Voices. She is co-founder of two other diverse and inventive supergroups, Moss and JaLaLa, and has recorded and toured with Ornette Coleman. She brings her unique perspective, personality and passion to everything she does, tonight will be no exception.

Joining her is Miami piano master, Martin Bejerano and Phoenix’s own, Ben Hedquist and Roy Moore.
