Join us for a night of original music from two of Arizona’s most talented emerging jazz artists, Alex Yuwen and Ross Lewicki.

Alex Yuwen plays in the Scottsdale Community College Jazz Orchestra, an SCC combo, the Nash Legacy Ensemble Red, and the Hamilton High School jazz band. He has performed with/opened up for many notable jazz musicians, such as Barry Harris, Kenny Barron, Lewis Nash, Lee Konitz, Branford Marsalis, Stefon Harris, Edward Simon, Peter Washington, George Colligan, and Ben Wendel.  In addition, he has recorded with Alex Sipiagin. Alex has attended the Brubeck Summer Jazz Colony, as well as performed at the Reno Jazz Festival and Portland Jazz Festival – at both of which, he received accolades for his performance. Currently, Alex is mentored by Eric Rasmussen and Michael Kocour, and he can be seen performing in the greater Phoenix area.

A native of Phoenix, Arizona, Ross Lewicki received his Bachelors degree in jazz piano performance at Arizona State University, where he studied with Michael Kocour. Ross’s work both as a pianist and composer has attracted significant attention beyond the Phoenix area. Pianist and composer Adam Benjamin chose Ross’s composition “Forty-Two” as the External Judge’s Choice at the 2013 Arizona State University Student Jazz Composition Competition. Ross was nominated for the American Pianists Association 2014 Cole Porter Fellowship. In addition to regular performances in the Phoenix metro area, Ross teaches jazz piano and music theory, and directs ensembles at Phoenix Conservatory of Music.
