Devon and his Nuance Jazz Trio have been a mainstay on the Phoenix jazz scene since 1989. Devon is a native Phoenician and studied with pianist Charles Lewis while in high school and later worked with local legends, Prince Shell, Nadine Jansen and Armand Boatman.

Bridgewater graduated from Harvard University in 1981 where he performed throughout his college career with the prestigious “Monday Night Jazz Band.” At Harvard, Devon studied with Dizzy Gillespie and Modern Jazz Quartet (MJQ) pianist, John Lewis. Devon gigged throughout the Boston area and was also a member of the Herb Pomeroy Big Band.

The Arizona Republic awarded Nuance as “Best Jazz Performers.” Devon was listed in the “City Scene” of Downbeat Magazine and has won performance awards from “Jazz in Arizona” and KJZZ. Nuance has toured internationally and appeared on national television (FoodNation with Bobby Flay). In addition to his music career, Devon is currently writing his Ph.D. dissertation at Arizona State University (History) and teaches U.S. History and Mexican American History at Phoenix College and ASU.
Recently Devon performed with the superb guitarist, Howard Alden and recorded several arrangements by Prince Shell with the “Ted Goddard Tentette.” Devon’s “New Nuance” is now producing a new recording for release in 2017.
